Some technical support tickets at a cable TV operator or ISP can be solved without sending anyone out: the set-top box was left in radio mode, the fiber modem lost signal, or there's an outage in the area that the subscriber didn't hear about. An AI agent can ask the same questions a person on your team would—which lights they see, which button they pressed—and guide them step by step. When a technician is needed, it logs the ticket with everything that was already tried.
What it can walk subscribers through
- TV with sound but no picture: it's almost always the set-top box in radio mode, and one button on the remote fixes it.
- Internet down: the agent asks which lights on the modem are lit and what color they are. That's what tells “the signal isn't getting through” apart from “the modem is fine and the problem is something else.”
- A single channel that won't show while the rest work fine.
- If an outage has been entered for the subscriber's area, it tells them right away instead of having them try things for nothing.
Why it matters what was already tried
- When the case reaches the technician, it arrives with the history: which lights were on, what was tried, and what the subscriber said. That avoids the visit that ends with “it was unplugged” and the call where the customer explains everything all over again.
- Your team sees that whole conversation in the panel and can take it over whenever they want.
Where it stops
- It doesn't schedule visits. Arranging a technician is still your team's job.
- It doesn't promise repair times or deadlines the company hasn't set.
- If the subscriber gets angry or the problem isn't solved, it hands the conversation to a person on your team instead of pressing on.
Questions
Don't people get more upset when a bot answers?
What upsets people is getting no answer, or having to repeat everything. The agent answers right away, at any hour, and hands the case to a person as soon as it can't solve it.
What about at three in the morning?
It answers just the same. Plenty of technical support tickets come in right when the office is closed.
Does it replace technicians?
No. It solves what didn't need a technician and gets the work ready for the cases that do.
